Support the grieving in your church and community this season

The holidays can be one of the most painful times of the year for people who are grieving the death of a loved one. While others are celebrating, the bereaved often feel overwhelmed, lonely, and unsure of how to navigate traditions, gatherings, or even daily routines.

GriefShare’s Surviving the Holidays, offered as a one-time event or a stand-alone book, gives your church a simple and powerful way to come alongside hurting people—with compassion, practical tools, and the hope of Christ.

What is Surviving the Holidays?

Surviving the Holidays is a seasonal ministry resource from GriefShare created specifically for people experiencing the pain of loss during the holidays. It equips your church to:

  • Host a one-time, low-barrier event that offers timely, Christ-centered comfort.
  • Provide practical help and emotional support through intentional outreach.
  • Connect individuals to your ongoing GriefShare group for continued care.

This resource is available in two flexible formats—as a hosted event or through the Survival Guide: Navigating the Holidays After Loss book, which includes access to a free, on-demand video. Whether you host a gathering or offer the book alone, Surviving the Holidays provides meaningful ministry at just the right time.

Two ways to offer support

Option 1:
Host a Surviving the Holidays event

Hosting Surviving the Holidays is a simple, two-hour event designed to give grieving individuals encouragement and practical strategies for navigating the season.

Your event kit is $75 and includes:

  • A 35-minute video with expert teaching and stories from people who understand.
  • A facilitator guide with step-by-step instructions.
  • Five participant books (Survival Guide: Navigating the Holidays After Loss).
  • Promotional tools like flyers and social graphics.
  • Listing on griefshare.org’s “Find a Group” directory.

Option 2:
Share the Survival Guide + Video

If hosting an event isn’t possible this year—or if you want to offer additional support—simply share Survival Guide: Navigating the Holidays After Loss. The $12 book stands on its own and includes free access to an encouraging, on-demand video.

Great for:

  • Giving to grieving individuals in your church.
  • Including in care baskets or placing in welcome centers.
  • Offering to GriefShare participants as a seasonal supplement.
